What does an appointment look like?

The practice of Chinese Medicine combines three aspects of care in one session: tailored diagnosis, multi-faceted treatment, and the space and time for the former to take effect, establishing a new, sustainable state of wellbeing.
If it’s your first appointment, we’ll ask some health questions related to your reason for visiting, and listen carefully to see what's going on for you.
Treatment will then involve one or more therapies based on your preference and information offered by the practitioner.
A treatment plan will be devised, recommendations offered for self-care methods, and a herbal prescription given if this has been selected as a treatment method.
Please allow 60 minutes for appointments.

How many treatments do I need?
This depends on what is being treated. Some issues can resolve within a couple of weeks, while others may require months of regular treatment.
As a very general rule, an initial course of three weekly treatments is recommended, with treatments then spaced out until you’re able to self-manage the issue at hand, with guidance provided on day-to-day adjustments to help prevent recurrence.

Is acupuncture painful?
Acupuncture treatments at Slow City are gentle and do not tend to elicit pain. We use hair-thin, sterile, high-quality acupuncture needles.
Different sensations may be experienced when a needle interacts with qi. These are sometimes described as: a spreading sensation, a heavy feeling at the acupoint, a dull ache, and an electrical sensation travelling down the channel. All of these are normal and only last for a moment. Often times needles are not felt at all.
Many people find acupuncture to be a profoundly calming experience, and report feeling noticeably centred, restored and relaxed afterwards.
